PAUL STEPHENSON
FIREWORKS
StolenSpace Gallery welcome back artist, Paul Stephenson, for his second solo show of new work at the gallery, ‘Fireworks’.
Paul Stephenson is a London based artist, who adapts original pieces of artwork into the 21st Century. They explore the effect that the media has through which we experience art, and how our relationship changes with it and warps the presumed intentions of the original artist.
In 2016, Stephenson unveiled his show ‘Forced Collaborations’ at the gallery, in which he subjected modern iconography onto original paintings he found, as reflections of the modern onto artwork of the past.
We were approached by Paul to make a video that would help explain the process behind his paintings in ‘Fireworks’. His unique style of forced collaboration Paul paints over old paintings that he buys at auctions or art galleries.
Paul felt the best way of communicating this to guest at the gallery and those that could not make it, would be to have a video explaining and showing the process.
We also provided Paul with all the stills for his catalogue, webpage etc.
